 Re: The Trail of Ctuhulhu
Are you already familiar with Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos? And how about the original Call of Cthulhu rpg?

 Re: The Trail of Ctuhulhu
Trail of Cthulhu is *fantastic* if you're looking for a system that supports investigative roleplay. It uses a system called Gumshoe whereby you can either choose to roll for success or spend points to automatically succeed at crucial points in the story. As the author (Ken Hite) put it, the one way that Call of Cthulhu games can potentially stall is if the investigators fail their investigation roll at a key moment. With Trail of Cthulhu, that won't happen to you because you can succeed during adventures when you need to.
If you're looking for a game of epic heroism then this isn't for you. This is a game about investigating grisly acts either perpetrated by or done in the service of supernatural beings beyond your comprehension, possibly dying or going insane in the process. If you're looking for a "monster smackdown" then look at Rippers by Pinnacle.

I picked up ToC, but haven't had a chance to play or run it. From reading it though, I am highly impressed. It seems like it would fit well with my play style.
