Re: Garden of Athena - shameless plug
80 000 words done! Wohoo! I'm so happy! I know, now comes the hard part of editing, correcting, rewriting, etc, but it's not getting me down right now. I wrote this as a little short story in the player's section. Let me know what you think. BTW Recurve Blasters are bow-like weapons that fire bio-ceramic arrows at super sonic speeds. Quote: The steel grey eyes of Aeneas surveyed the street methodically. His head snapped back behind the corner a split second before four arrows cleaved the air where his face had been. He grinned at his companion with the mad euphoria of someone who just dodged death, or maybe he was still a little drunk. Stavros did not return the grin. “Well?” “Two by the temple entrance, seven by the fountain and two more above the butcher’s shop,” Aeneas looked at the arrows that protruded from the door across from him; “and it looks like at least four of them have recurve blasters.” The old hoplite looked at Aeneas, only his dark eyes visible through the slits in the helmet. The early morning sun cast deep shadows over the little alley where the two hoplites were cornered. The light seemed unnatural, warping the colors. Especially the red nuances of the blood slowly oozing from the murdered guide who lay, still twitching, at the intersection. “So the odds?” Stavros asked. “Terrible… We’re outnumbered five to one, on their home turf, well entrenched, and fully armed, whereas we have only our swords and are drunk from a night out on the town…” Even though he couldn’t see it, Aeneas knew that Stavros was raising an eyebrow at this. “Terrible, I say,” Aeneas continued, “They don’t stand a chance.” He laughed at his own joke. Stavros did not. He motioned for Aeneas to take position behind him and ignited his Aegis shield. The young man unsheathed his Hades blade and crouched down behind his commander. Suddenly sober, he realized that Stavros intended to charge the rebels. “Shouldn’t we just wait for the guard? Or at least stay here and let them come to us!” “This is Gortyna, the traitor state, young Aeneas, nobody alarms the guard before it is too late. And if we wait, they will surround us and shoot us down.” “And they will somehow not surround us when we run right into their middle?” “Do I hear a hint of hesitation, young lion?” “Never, old man, just testing your arguments, is all. Faulty logic is often the first sign of old age.” “And idle chatter is a sure sign of youth, GO!”
Crouching down behind the Aegis shield the two men ran almost blind. Aeneas had a firm grip on the shoulder of Stavros with his left hand, clutching his Hades blade sword in the other. He cursed his vanity that had made him leave his bio-ceramic armor at the barracks. Stavros, a veteran of more than twenty years had not been so foolish. Not only had he come in full armor, he had even brought his Aegis shield to the theatre where the evening had begun. At the time Aeneas and the other younger hoplites had snickered at what they felt was excessive caution. Despite the smiles of the theatre ushers, the inn keeper and brothel madam, Gortyna was enemy territory, and you should never go unarmed into enemy territory.
*Woosh-crack* The sound of arrows being fired at supersonic speed. Two exploded against the Aegis shield. Stavros dared a look over the rim of his humming power shield. “The two over the butcher’s shop… Think you can jump that high?” “Watch me,” the young man boasted, secretly promising Hermes a couple of doves if he would help him make it. Stavros knelt down. Aeneas took one step off the old man’s left calf; the next one off his shoulder and at the same time Stavros lifted himself up. For the unfortunate rebels standing on the roof of the butcher’s shop it seemed as if Aeneas suddenly came flying up from behind the Aegis shield. They died in stunned silence as Aeneas landed between them and cut both their throats in a single fluid motion. Stavros bull rushed the seven men standing around the public fountain. Three of them, armed with light shields and polis lances took a step forward, getting in the way of the one armed with a recurve blaster. “Fools,” Stavros muttered. He drew out his weapon that he had kept behind his Aegis shield. “The Axe!” someone cried, seconds before the water in the fountain changed color.
From his vantage point Aeneas watched Stavros “the Axe” perform as if Ares had been unleashed. The fight only took a moment.
Stavros “the Axe”, covered in rebel blood, looked at the last two men, standing on the temple steps. They fled into the temple. (Aeneas later learned that they had become loyal acolytes of Dionysus, drowning their rebellious tendencies in holy wine).
Suddenly there was the sound of a whistle and running feet. “Great… NOW the guard arrives,” Stavros said.

And the price is already discounted... ^_^
How much of the Suzerain setting should one have access to in order to use yours?

No, it's not a real discount - all PDFs on the Savage Mojo site is 10% off - since we get a bigger share if it is bought from there rather than through a distributor like RPGNOW or Paizo for instance. You don't really need Savage Suzerain to play Dogs, there are only a handful of Suzerain edges being used. You DO need a Savage Worlds rules book, though.

Yeah... I was just yankin' yer chain... ^_^ Quote: You don't really need Savage Suzerain to play Dogs, there are only a handful of Suzerain edges being used. Hehe ... according to my FLGS you can't get SW Explorers Edition, or the hardcover, legally in this country anymore: apparently the licensed importer won't buy the minimum 50 copies due to lack of interest... Guess I'll have to do with a .pdf then, 'cause my gaming club have almost only outdated copies.

Fantask has plenty of SW:EX and it has sold better than most "small" games (something in the order of 80 copies). What FLGS is it you're using? I think the problem might be that they are not making a lot of profit on a 80kr core rule book compared to the 300kr D&D ones (where you effectively need 3 to play). Third print is coming out in a couple of weeks with the latest corrections, I'll let you know when, and then I'll send one from Copenhagen to Roskilde unless your FLGS changes to a better distributor/importer.

I was sort of planning on picking up one from Fantask next time I'm through there anyway. (My own Explorers edition is outdated as well... if I can find it that is...) The Guy sort of implied that Fantask may have imported theirs ... erm, semi-legally..?

The Guy sort of implied that Fantask may have imported theirs ... erm, semi-legally..? How? Fantask doesn't do the import, their distributor does, and how is a book semi-legal? It's been published, it's been bought and it has been shipped across borders. Unless someone didn't pay customs or something I really don't see it!? Anyway... Back to Athena I hope you will take a look at it Onkel and let me know what you think. I'm writing book 2 as we speak so any constructive criticism would be great.

Re: Garden of Athena - shameless plug
I don't know how he figured the books Fantask sell are illegal - I know little to nothing about how import of IP is handled, except that it's excessively complicated and restrictive. It's still a loss for my FLGS, since I'd have to buy the books elsewhere and they don't see a penny themselves. I'll take a look at Dogs of Hades, can't promise when though...
