Re: Pathfinder RPG for $10

Whoa! I just borrowed the beta test version from the gaming club I mentioned, and boy does it suck! I won't be spending 10$ on that - Burning Wheel on the other hand looks better every time I read the books.
Ah... Burning Wheel... the wanna-be LARPer's RPG.
Just kidding.... although I've not been able to play it yet, Burning Wheel has some interesting aspects I'd love to try. So seriously... why the "suckage?" It's DnD 3.5ed with some interesting house rules. Are you not a 3.5 type of player? Too much crunch and not enough fluff? No problem with hatin... just be specific and constructive. I've found Pathfinder a tremendous game that logically extends DnD 3.5 and fixes some sticky problems like grapple. And with WotC no longer supporting 3.5 material, Paizo is the only place you will be able to get new books with those rules. And THIS $10 PDF contains essentially the same material as the DMG and the Players Handbook. Now, if you just don't like 3.5 or something... well you just aren't going to like Pathfinder.
Sorry - it was a very personal reaction...
I have no real relationship with 3.5 so any fixes of or support for old material has little importance for me. I was mostly looking for a way to use the Iron Kingdoms sourcebooks without having to convert to another system (which is what I'm doing now), or having to use 3.5 as it was.
But my reaction was prompted by a feeling that the book focused too much on things I consider irrelevant (and it was unreasonable of me to expect anything but what was in the book!) And even more by the feel it evokes - especially the design aesthetic for characters: I really don't like the look that WotC have given fantasy characters, and I think they carried that forward into Pathfinder.
I have an enormous respect for the Pathfinder project - because it's clearly made to service it's users! I just don't need it myself.
The Pathfinder beta test book doesn't suck more than 3.5 - it probably sucks less! In my opinion however, apart from a few interesting aspects, 3.5 sucks, and thus Pathfinder, being it's spritual successor, also does...
