 Savage Worlds "Rippers"
Anybody played this? One of my homeys is looking to run a horror game, and I thought it might be worth a looksee.

I ran the Plot Point campaign pretty much straight from the book, and we had an awesome time with it. It helped that I am a combination Universal Horror/Victorian literature nut. My one regret was not pulling out all the stops for the big finish; I didn't hit the PC's as hard as I could, so it was almost anti-climactic. Imagine if Van Helsing and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen were good movies, and you'd have it just about right.

 Re: Savage Worlds "Rippers"
QFT, Loremaster. Rippers is horror but it's pulpy horror. If you wanted to run horror using Savage Worlds that was a little more of the "dip into the icky" variety then check out the "Pinebox Adventures" by 12 to Midnight. http://midnightcellar.com/home.php?cat=260I've run "Brainwashed" a few times and it was a lot of fun. Oh... and make sure you pick up their "Fear Effects" supplement first. It's only $3.25 and it has some great expanded tables for what happens to your characters when they get creeped out: http://midnightcellar.com/product.php?p ... t=0&page=1

It depends on whether you want to play modern horror or something more period. Onkel Thorsen wrote: Oh, you mean like the comics? I'm currently playing in the Rippers plot point campaign, run by one of my friends. Personally I would loose most of the ripper-tech part of it and simply make it a gas-light horror game. You can still run the campaign without too much trouble I think. Magnus PS: The plot point campaign in Rippers could also be used in Indiana Jones-style pulp with little alterations.

You know, that's exactly what I thought after reading the book; I liked it all except the tech.

It's not a bad idea, Rippertech, but I think it was a case of them wanting to do something original and unique instead of just sticking with the genre. Magnus

When I ran it, the Rippertech was little used, except for one player who just wanted to have every power in the world. You know the type ... It doesn't unbalance the campaign too much if you don't include it, but it's a fun little option. Another option is to make it a Plot Point. If I were to run Rippers again, the status of Rippertech would be a dividing point among the different factions, with several decrying it's use and others embracing it. The schism that this causes would have dire effects on the Rippers organization on the whole ... and who exactly would that benefit?
