 AD&D First Edition in 2008 = OSRIC
Are you so old school they tore the school down? If the answer is yes then you likely played and LOVED AD&D First Edition. If you haven't already, you need to check out OSRIC. Old School Reference & Index Compilation http://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric/It's old-school, baby!

While I'm not an old school gamer yet (at least not until 3.5 is considered old school), I've heard nothing but good things about OSRIC. Old school gamers seem to love the system. So, if you like recommendations from people with absolutely NO experience in the subject, well, I like this one.

Near as I can tell, it's not OSRIC itself you play - but 1st edition D&D or AD&D. OSRIC is merely a means of producing new material for those systems without getting entangled in WotCs copyrights.
As a player og game master, OSRIC is just a label indicating that a product is directly compatible with the old-school rules.
Personally I write too much of my own stuff anyway, to really benefit from OSRIC...

As far as I have been able to tell, OSRIC looks just like my old AD&D rulebooks. It seems it's not just a means of publishing for AD&D but is a repackaging of the out of print rules.
