 Bah Humbug from WotC
The Vorpal Axe of Layoffs +5 has landed at WotC. According to Lisa Stevens from Paizo, the following persons were fired:
Randy Buehler (VP of digital gaming) Andrew Finch (director of digital games) Stacy Longstreet (senior art director) Julia Martin (editor) William Meyers (creative manager, digital design) Dave Noonan (game designer) Jennifer Paige (online community manager) Jennifer Powers (marketing) Jonathan Tweet (game designer)
Noonan and Tweet are names well known to myself. And, if I'm correct, Jennifer Paige was also known as Blue on the old DnD Video podcast and was in Gamers 2: Dorkness Rising.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about Dave and John. I've heard through the grapevine, that they both already have a few offers.
WotC is part of big corp, so they really like to make decisions based on numbers.

 Re: Bah Humbug from WotC
I don't think this has anything to do with "the economy" per se. The core D&D 4E books were great but the whole Gleemax/Digital Initiatives/Virtual Gamespace effort was pretty much a flop. Whether this was WotC's fault, Hasbro's fault, or somewhere in between it's WotC that's going to take it on the chin and these don't strike me as "lay-offs" but more "falling on swords."
