For the record: the New Wife was incorrect in that Thanksgiving is not a Danish tradition. What she may have been trying to say, is that Scandinavian culture has a very similar tradition occurring very close to Thanksgiving: Mortensaften. Mortensaften (which celebrates Saint Martin of Tours) sees the family gathering around a meal consisting of goose or duck (similar to your turkey?). Thus the lady may have intended to speak of the danish equivalent of Thanksgiving, but probably lacked the vocabulary to make that clear - a surprisingly common problem (see for instance the current head of NATO - our former Prime Minister)
