I feel you. I'm a Fed now (though not in Defense) and things can get very...trying. It's hard to watch, and be a part of, how the sausage gets made sometimes.

I was with USCBP under DHS, and I'd see stuff on our in-house newsletter about border patrol being pinned down, unarmed, while Mexican coyotes AND Mexican military would be laying down cover fire to run drugs, people, and weapons into and out of the U.S. all the time and then I'd hear in the news where DHS grants and budgets were being used to buy podunk towns with 1k people decontamination tents, bullet-resistant jackets for DOGS, and 10k$ ice sculptures for parties and one day it just got to me, marched in there on my birthday and handed a 30-day notice over to my boss.

My mother is DoD civilian and it's the same crap over there... taking 6, 12, 24 months to reimburse travel/relocation expenses to soldiers, and a whole mess of other crap... then my dad was a state trooper, died about 3 weeks short of retirement... and my mom gets like 55% of his pension. Government = evil.
